Instructions for Authors
Online Manuscript Submission: Manuscripts
must only be submitted online to the Bentham Science Editorial
Office. It is preferable that authors first send an abstract
to the editor, prior to submitting the full manuscript. The
submitted abstract should outline the intended contents and
coverage of the article. Abstracts may be sent either by e-mail
to the editorial office at editorial@cnsnd-dt.org
or alternatively by the Internet at www.bentham.org/onlAbsSub.htm.
A successful electronic submission of a manuscript will be
followed by a system-generated acknowledgement to the principal/corresponding
author within 72 hours of the dispatch of the manuscript.
Any queries therein should be addressed to mahmood@bentham.org
and copied to Jalil@bentham.org.
After approval of your abstract by the editor, you may submit
your full manuscript either by e-mail (file size restricted)
or by online submission. For online submission of manuscripts,
these should be submitted via our online manuscript submission
service available at www.bentham-mps.org
or by FTP submission at www.bentham-ftp.org.
For all online submissions, please provide your complete manuscript
in the form of a single zipped folder containing soft copies
of all the material (main text in MS word format, figures
/ illustrations, scanned photographs, tables, chemical structures
drawn in ChemDraw) as separate files, while a PDF version
of the entire manuscript must also be included with all the
figures / illustrations / tables / chemical structures etc.
embedded in the text exactly in the manner as they should
appear in print.
Authors are required to proofread the PDF version of their
manuscript before submission. The Publishers will not be responsible
for any error occurring in the manuscript in this regard.
Manuscripts fall under two categories:
1. Invited Reviews (Full length & Mini-reviews)
The focus will either be a therapeutic target or a molecular
target which may be a single protein or a family of proteins.
The authors will have considerable liberty to discuss such
areas as genomics, polymorphisms, molecular biology, creation
and use of stable cell lines, target validation (e.g. cellular
and sub-cellular distribution of the molecular target, embryonic
and functional knockout animal models, antisense and aptamer
studies), high throughput screening and drug discovery, rational
drug design, drug discovery and development, and the results
of clinical trials that shed light on the relationship between
the molecular and therapeutic target. Manuscripts will be
reviewed by at least two reviewers to ensure that only articles
of the highest scientific quality appear in CDT-CNSND.
2. Unsolicited Reviews (Full length & Mini-reviews)
Manuscripts on any topic related to CNS drug targets will
be considered by the CDT-CNSND editorial team.
For full length review articles, the manuscript, written in
English, should not exceed 60 pages (ca. 30 printed pages)
and for mini-reviews a maximum of 30 manuscript pages in length
(ca. 15 printed pages).
The manuscript should be typed in double spacing throughout
on A-4 or US Letter (8.5x11 inches) paper.
Dot matrix print or any print that is difficult to read is
unacceptable. Two copies of the manuscript must accompany
the original (along with a passport size black and white photograph
of the author and a computer disk) and should be sent to the
Editor-in-Chief’s address. All pages should be numbered.
Abbreviations should be defined the first time that they are
used in the manuscript and a list of abbreviations used should
be provided (see below).
Single Topic Issues: These issues will be restricted to invited
review articles. A Single Topic Special Editor will offer
a short Perspective and co-ordinate the solicitation of manuscripts
from leading scientists. Single Topic Issues will focus on
either a molecular target or a specific disease or family
of diseases. In the latter case, the less well addressed CNS
disorders will be highlighted. Authors interested in editing
a single topic issue may submit their proposal to the Editor-in-Chief
for his consideration.
Manuscript Organisation: The manuscript should be divided
as: Title page, abstract and the main text. The text may be
subdivided further according to the areas to be discussed.
This should be followed by the Acknowledgement (if any) and
Reference sections. The first page should contain the title,
the authors names (initials and surname only), with
an asterisk in front of the name of the principal author.
Conflict of Interest: Financial contributions
to the work being reported should be clearly acknowledged,
as should any potential conflict of interest.
Abstract: The abstract should not exceed 250 words
and it should condense the essential features of the review
article, with the focus on the major advances in the field.
Key Words: Authors must supply up to eight key words
along with their manuscript.
Text: The main text should begin on a separate page
and it may be subdivided into separate sections. The review
article should mention any previous important reviews in the
field and contain a comprehensive discussion starting with
the general background of the field. It should then go on
to discuss the salient features of recent developments. The
authors should avoid presenting material which has already
been published in a previous review. The reference numbers
should be given in square brackets in the text. Acknowledgements
should be kept to a minimum.
Abbreviations: All abbreviations used in the text must
be listed and defined in a separate section following the
acknowledgements and before the reference section. Only use
abbreviations that are widely accepted in the scientific community.
Tables: -
Data Tables should be submitted in Microsoft Excel or in Microsoft Word table
format.
- Each table should include
a title/caption explaining what the table shows. Detailed legends may then follow.
-
Tables should be given on separate pages with indications on the left hand margin
to the text, as to the appropriate placement of the tables.
-
Tables should not contain vertical rules.
-
Columns and rows of data should be made visibly distinct by ensuring the borders
of each cell display as black lines.
-
Tables should be numbered consecutively in order of their citation in the body
of the text, with Arabic numerals.
-
If a reference is cited in both the table and text, insert a lettered footnote
in the table to refer to the numbered reference in the text.
-
Tabular data provided as additional files can be submitted as an Excel spreadsheet.
Figures
/ Illustrations:
All authors must strictly follow the guidelines below for
preparing illustrations for publication in CNS & Neurological
Disorders - Drug Targets
Editorial
