Instructions for Authors
Manuscripts should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief without
prior invitation at the following address: Dr.
Alain P. Rolland, Editor-in-Chief " Current Pharmaceutical
Biotechnology", Vice President, Product
Development, Vical, Inc., 9373 Towne Centre Drive, Suite 100,
San Diego, CA 92121-3088, USA; Phone: +1-858-646-1208; Fax:
+1-858-646 1250; e-mail: arolland@vical.com
Manuscript Organisation: The manuscript should
be divided as: Title page, abstract and the main text. The
text may be subdivided further according to the areas to be
discussed. This should be followed by the Acknowledgement
(if any) and Reference sections. The first page should contain
the title, the author's names (initials and surname only),
with an asterisk (*) in front of the name of the principal
author.
Types of Manuscripts Published:
The Journal accepts full-length Reviews, Letters (short communications),
and Research articles written in English. Also, the journal
publishes single theme issues (so called " Hot Topic
issues").
Manuscript Length:
Review Articles: The maximum page length
limit for comprehensive Review articles is sixty pages. For
Mini-Review articles, the maximum page length is nine journal
pages. Each journal page is on average 900 words.
Letters: The maximum total page length for
Letter type articles published in the journal is nine journal
pages. Each journal page is on average 900 words.
Research Articles: The minimum total page
length for Research articles is ten journal pages, and the
maximum thirty pages. Each journal page is on average 900
words.
The manuscript should be typed in Times New Roman, 12-point
fonts and double spacing throughout on A-4 or American quarto
paper.
There is no restriction on the number of figures, tables or
additional files e.g. video clips, animation and datasets,
that can be included with each article online. Authors may
include relevant supporting data with each article.
Single Topic/Hot Topic Issue: These issues
will be based on invited Review articles. A Single Topic Special
Editor will offer a short Perspective and co-ordinate the
solicitation of between 8 to 10 manuscripts from leading scientists.
Authors interested in editing a single topic issue on a contemporary
topic in the field, may submit their proposal to arolland@vical.com
with a copy to cpb@bentham.org
for consideration.
Conflict of Interest: Financial contributions
to the work being reported should be clearly acknowledged,
as should any potential conflict of interest.
Abstract: The abstract should not exceed
250 words for review and research papers and should be limited
to only 150 words for letters, summarizing the essential features
of the article. The use of abbreviations should be reduced
to a minimum and the references should not be cited in the
abstract.
Key Words: Authors must supply up to eight
key words along with their manuscript.
Text: The main text should begin on a separate
page and it may be subdivided into separate sections. The
review article should mention any previous important reviews
in the field and contain a comprehensive discussion starting
with the general background of the field. It should then go
on to discuss the salient features of recent developments.
The authors should avoid presenting material which has already
been published in a previous review. The reference numbers
should be given in square brackets [ ] in the text. Acknowledgements
should be kept to a minimum.
Tables: -
Data Tables should be submitted in Microsoft Excel or in Microsoft Word table
format.
- Each table should include
a title/caption explaining what the table shows. Detailed legends may then follow.
-
Tables should be given on separate pages with indications on the left hand margin
to the text, as to the appropriate placement of the tables.
-
Tables should not contain vertical rules.
-
Columns and rows of data should be made visibly distinct by ensuring the borders
of each cell display as black lines.
-
Tables should be numbered consecutively in order of their citation in the body
of the text, with Arabic numerals.
-
If a reference is cited in both the table and text, insert a lettered footnote
in the table to refer to the numbered reference in the text.
-
Tabular data provided as additional files can be submitted as an Excel spreadsheet.
